Discovery Point believes that music helps to increase memory, build fine and gross motor skills, enhance hand-eye coordination, develop vocabulary, and improve literacy skills. We sing, dance, and do fingerplays every day and in different areas of learning. Music helps children develop the concept that language is a symbol that carries meaning. Children are naturally drawn to music and rhyme. The more children are exposed to this type of learning the more fine tuned their ears are to distinguishing sound and the cadence of language. These are all skills that transfer young children into readers! Discovery Point also has a music volunteer once a month to play the guitar and sing with the kids.
